83年に全米で３位まで上昇したダンス・ナンバー。我が国のＧＳグループ、タイガースの「シーサイド・バウンド」に似た部分があり、話題となりました。アルバム『RHYTHM OF YOUTH（邦題：セーフティ・ダンス）』からのカット。この曲には「UK REMIX」、「Original Aussie Version」というのがありますが、後者はベスト盤『COLLECTION』に収録されている「Extended Version」とまったく同じです。


　メン・ウィズアウト・ハットはカナダのモントリオール出身のバンドで、アイヴァン・ドロスク（ヴォーカル、ギター、パーカッション、ピアノ）とジェレミー・アロバスの２人によって1980年に結成されました。正式にはMEN WITHOUT HATS（MENが複数形なので、当然HATも複数）ですが、日本盤での表記は、アルバムもシングルもメン・ウィズアウト・ハットとなっています。バンドはこの２人にアイヴァンの弟ステファン・ドロスク（ギター、ヴァイオリン）を加えて３人組となり、４曲いりＥＰ『FOLK OF THE '80s』をリリースしますが、間もなくジェレミーが脱退、代わってアラン・マッカーシー（エレクトロニクス、ピアノ、パーカッション）が加入します。そしてリリースされたのが、この「セーフティ・ダンス」です。プロモーション・ヴィデォでのミョ〜な決めのポーズ（イヤミさんの「シェー」に似てる）が、なんかおかしかったですよね。

　この後も地道に活動を続けますが、あまりヒットには恵まれませんでした。しかし87年にリリースした「Pop Goes The World」が88年１月に20位まで上昇しました。オフィシャル・サイトはこちら。
